do you have a cat? Please tell me all about him/her.
Hey, I had a cat but she died several years ago. We got the cat in 1983. Her name was Squeaky. She was a nice cat. Sometimes she would even sleep on my bed.
Whenever we would give her a treat all we would have to do is shake the can and she would come.
That's really cool. Keep on posting.
Well, it wold be more accurate to say my cat owns me. We've had two cats, and while Advent isn't my favorite, I wouldn't trade him for anything. He gets the fact that I'm blind, and knows how to work it to his advantage. If he wants to be found, he purrs, and he's loud! If he's stealing food off the stove, he stops purring. When he was younger, he used to like some of my braille magazines. He'd do a belly flop in front of them if they were on the floor. He'd flip open Popular Mechanics and move his paws across the pages like he knew exactly what he was reading. He'd ignore my music or communications magazines.

Hey! I use to have two cats. (Baby, and Sneaky) Baby was this fat, gray, mail cat. And sneaky was skinny, and little. (she was born like that) Sadly, about 2 years ago, (almost) we had to give them away cause my Dad (well, and I am too) is ellergic. I miss my kitties!
Good topic!

I got a cat named (Oreo), a female not a male to be clear. She's a real fluffy cat with black hair, One of her hind legs is white and the other hind leg she has a white sock towards the bottom where her paw is. She is declawed and also fixed so that she won't have kittens. The owner before me had her declawed and fixed not me.
This cat is pretty spoiled rotten, I got a bunch of toys over here for her to play with. She eats the most expensive kind of cat food called Iams for Adults if you ever heard of that, and instead of giving her fossit water. I pour bottled water into her water dish.
I also feed the stray cats in my neighborhood. I buy them the cheap kind of cat food though called "Special kitty" and some "Special Kitty" canned food. I fill the tin bowl up with some of the dry cat food first then pour on top a different can food flavor a day and I fill there other tin bowl up with water, fossit water. I'd say they have it good around these parts.
That is really nice of you.
I don't have a cat only a guide dog. My family don't like animals. My friend Jennifer has 2 cats one is called Ginger she is 12 years the cat. I would love a cat but I don't know how that would go with my guide dog.
2 a black former stray called Morticia, and a rescued mute kitten called Alvin.
cool.
They are real characters Morticia is a complete snob and Alvin, is a fearless hooligan, who beats up the dogs.
My male cat is named Smokey. He is over two years old now, and I got him when he was seven months. I have seen some changes in his personality. He is still playful but not as attention seeking as he used to be. I wouldn't give him up for the world though.
THESE ARE VERY NICE TOPICS.
I MEAN POSTS.
My cat, Annie, is almost two (we think). I got her from the SPCA (Humane Society?) in September of last year. She's different shades of brown and has green eyes. She's a small, short-haired cat who meows a lot. I think that she knows I can't see, and I KNOW she's getting into trouble when she's too quiet. She has an afinity for catnip, pens, and shiny objects.
My entire life, I was raised around both cats and dogs. Right now, I have two cats, Salem, and Lilly. As someone said before, the cats own us, we dont' own them. Lilly likes attention, only when she wants it. Salem, however, is always wanting to be in my lap, and purring as loud as can be. when Lilly purrs, you can't hear her, unless you can get close enough to put your ear to her side. They both love to lay on papers. Salem especially, loves laying on my Braille magazines and books. They also love soft things, such as clothes, blankets, etc. Salem is also a talker. If I meow at him, he always responds. It's the cutest thing!
I've had many cats through out my life! My last cats were Olga and Antonio! Olga ran away! We had to give Antonio to my Mom's friend Miss Becky caus of my allergies! I felt really bad about that! We still have 2 cats now! Smokey was my Dad's cat! I think he is still grieving for my Dad all he does is lay around! Garfield belongs to my neices! Both cats know not to go in my room caus of Emma and Daisy!
Last year right before Hurricane Rita hit my area of texas, i went into abbie's (my Seeing Eye dog) vet and was given the most beautiful tuxedo kitten ever. Her name at the vet was Minnie but her hind legs are white up to the middle and look like cow girl boots so i changed her name to dixie Mae. The rest of her is differend shades of orange, gray, brown and yellow. She's got green eyes and the bottom half of her face, chest and paw tips are all white though the front ones have lots more color on them than the backs, hence the tuxedo. She has the most adoreable pink nose which has a tiny freckle right in the middle and the inside of her ears are pink as well...oh and she has a racoon tail too. She was around four months old then though the vet couldn't tell me what day exactly she was born cuz she was a stray.
Anyway, my dixie learned very quickly that i can't see well so all i have to do is say "dixie, where are you?" and i'm answered with a miew or she runs up to my feet and swats at my toes to let me know she's there. She and abbie didn't get along well at first but they're like sisters now; they even sleep together on their couch. They play together and when they haven't seen each other all day, they both get really happy when they're reunited.
I love these topics. I'm glad the cat and dog got along.
Yes! I have a beautiful leopard tabby named Frodo. He is brown and gray striped with a cream-colored belly. That may sound ugly but it is not! He is gorgeous! He was born on June 20, 2003. I found him one day when I was walking with my brother in Ohio. I found this little kitten in the road and when I told the lady in the yard nearby, she said I could have him. He has been my pride and joy ever since, and everyone who meets him falls in love with him. My roommate is enamored with him. He is now 3 years old and weighs 16 pounds. He is the most loveable cat I have ever been priveleged to own.
I believe animals know when they've been adopted and/or saved from a horrible life in the streets. They appreciate it. I might have said this in my earlier posts, but my cat loves some braille magazine and not others. When he was younger he'd sniff my music or electronics magazines and walk away. For some reason, he loved Popular Mechanics. If I'd leave it on the floor, he'd sniff at it, run back about ten feet, run to the magazine, do a belly flop, flip open the magazine and move his paws across the braille. He'd purr, almost like he knew exactly what he was reading and was excited about it.

Hello, all! I have a cat named Shadow. I adopted him from the Animal Rescue League in April of 2005. He was malnourished, and there were mats in his long-haired coat. My sighted friends didn't know what I was thinking, but I fell in love with Shadow's sweet personality and extremely loud purr. After adopting him, I found out that he had a serious heart condition, and my vet was afraid he wouldn't make it. However, with love, prayers, good nutrition and veterinary care, he's made a major recovery. My vet says his heart will never be quite normal, but she doesn't fear for his life anymore, and he doesn't have to be on medications anymore. He is all black, with big, bright, yellow eyes. I had to have him shaved since we couldn't get all the mats out of him, but now his coat has grown back in all long and beautiful. I keep it groomed every day. He likes to lay on the bed and purr at night. I love him to death.
Salem is all black too. He also has a very loud purr. He was a stray, and I had to keep him. I love animals to death, and if there's strays, I always want to take them in, make them my own, and give them a good home, with lots of love and attention. anyway, Salem was a stray. My boyfriend and I went to Nevada to visit, in October of 2003. When we came home, my parents told us that there was a little kitten that had been hanging around the house since we'd been gone. Well, being the kind of person I am, I immediately went outside, and waited for the little kitten to show up. Sure enough, he came. He was so malnourished. I felt awful for him. So, I brought him in, fed him, and made him mine, (well, actually, he made me his.) As for Lilly, my mom brought her home. One of her employees had a cat, and she had kittens, so we took one.
These are cute.
My family has two cats named queenine and buster. Both males. Buster is a tabby and not sure what queenie is. There's a story behind queenie. Queenie was a stray so we decided to take him in. He was just a day old when we found him on July 4 can't remember the year. Anyways when we took him to the vet we found out that he was a girl. Well this cat never got pregnat and about a year later he grew balls. This is when we found queenie was a boy instead of a girl. We never changed his name though as we didn't want to confuse him. When queenie was little he loved to play with this toy that you had a little ball in this circle thing and he would stick his paws in these retangular holes and spin the ball. He also loved toy mice. Now he still loves to play but he's getting old and grouchy lol. He's 8 years old. Buster also loved to lay on papers. Buster is also unique because he plays fetch. You know those little hair ties that girls ware in their hair? What he does is he'll bring the tie to you and when you throw it he will bring it back to you. He'll do this until you or the cat get tired. Also when queenie was little he would play the piano. We had one of those toy pianos and he'd play it with his paws, it was cute. We also had a tire swing that he'd put his paws on and swing. That was also cute. I do love a cats purr.

I love this thread. It's fun to talk about cats. When I was growing up, I thought of myself as a dog person. All the cats I had known were grouchy and stuck-up. Then I met some of my friends cats, and they were friendly. Now I have Shadow, and he's my baby. Gemini, Salem sounds so cute. I'd like to take in all the strays if I could, too. When I walked into the Animal Rescue League, I started crying because I just wished I could adopt them all and give them a good home, so that none of them would have to live at the shelter. Of course I can't, so I got Shadow, and hope to get another kitty sometime.
I wonder why cats lay down on, or put their paws in the middle of Braille. Maybe they think we're petting the Braille when we should be petting them? At least that's what I tell Shadow.
Hahaha, that's cute. Well, I can't go into an animal shelter, because like you said, I want to take every single animal there, hoem with me. I'm a huge animal lover. It's kind of strange, because when I was very young, I was attacked by a dog, but even though that happened, I still absolutely love them. I just feel like I have such a connection with animals.
My cat buster also likes to lick the water off of your body as you come out of the shower dripping wet and he is in the bathroom. He also use to set on the shower ledge and watch you take a bath or shower until I accidently knocked him in the water one day lol.

LOL, I had a cat once, who liked to watch people taking baths too. He'd always sit there, and bat at the water with his paws. When Salem was a kitten, he always liked to watch the water in the toilet go around, but he's not so interested in it anymore. LOL
On google video, voogle, I think it's called , you can find a video of a cat who taught himself to flush the toilet, just to watch the water swirl around. He sits there and flushes it repeatedly and watches it swirl. At one point, the cat sticks his paw in the toilet bowl, but quickly withdraws it again. I'll look up the link for the video, it's pretty funny. I was watching it with several sighted friends I trust, and they say it's authentically the cat doing the flushing. How cool!
Not to be grose, but Buster use to drink from the toilet, actually both of my cats did this when their water was empty.

My cat Frodo does some weird stuff when he is hungry. I feed him in the morning, and if I don't give him food the second I wake up, he bites my toes. Also when I, or anyone else for that matter, am sleeping or in bed, he crawls on me and sucks my ears. Does anyone have a cat that does this? Let me know. My theory is that he wasn't weaned properly as a kitten.
As far as sucking ears, you migh be right. Our cat Advent is about ten or eleven, and he still knits with his paws. If you put a finger under his toes and on the fleshy part of his paw, he squeezes it like a baby squeezes your finger. Our last cat was adopted from a friend of mine at work. She died tragically of feline aids. We never wanted to se a cat go through that again. Our vet told us about this blood bank for animals where the vet who ran it was giving her cats to good homes. To make a long, convoluted story a little shorter, we adopted Advent from there. He was the bully of all these cats. He truly was a real scaredy cat, but turned into a marshmellow as he got older. It took him a long time to really trust us. When he's hungry, he rattles the trashcan liners. If that doesn't work, he turns on my clock radio or makes it talk. I kep hearing "it's five, it's five, it's five..." Then, he starts knocking things off the dresser. He's borowing other lives from cats, because I want to kill him some mornings, but I love him to death.
I had a kitten once who, in my opinion, was taken from her mother too soon. She used to sleep with me and would try to suck on my ears, my chin, and various other parts. I remember one night waking up and she was clinging to the lower part of one leg. I raised my leg up and down, and she just clung to it trying to suck on the fleshy part of my calf. Another night she was crying, and I swear, it sounded as if she were crying "mama, mama."
Salem does the kneading thing with his paws, too. He doesn't try to nurse on anything, but when he's laying on me,or next to me, he'll do the little kneading thing. I think it's kind of comforting. I heard that cats will sometimes do that, as a sort of comfort thing to them too.
I think it comes from when they are babies and knead on their mother's as they are being fed. I think they just like to do that as they grow older as a comfort thing.
Shadow also kneads. He'll sit on the bed, and knead the blanket for hours. I don't know why he does it. He has a certain blanket he likes to knead best. He usually doesn't knead me at all, just the bed. That's also when he purrs the loudest.
I have a black and white cat called Tia, she is diabetic and I have to inject her every day. That's not too hard, but getting someone to fill the needles up is a pain in the backside! She is very cute though, I wouldn't swop her, but at the same time I wouldn't get another one! At dinner time she sits in front of the sofa next to my guide dog, and they wait patiently for me to get up and trip over them! I even found them curled up on the same bed together once!
Awe, that's so cute. The cat I had that died in 2004 would have been needing insulin injections if she had lived. But she died while at the vet's awaiting more tests. But I can't imagine dealing with a young diabetic cat. Having one need all sorts of medical attention in old age is one thing, but I admire you for taking on that responsibility for a young cat.
Becky, I believe both you and the cat were fortunate. When Samantha died, she had cancer all through her. She didn't recognize me any longer. She would miss the litter box. The last clear moment I think she had was about a week before she died. I just came in from taking out the trash, and she ran and jumped on the counter, cried and rubbed my face. She wasn't the only one crying. We were giving her interfuron in her food when she would eat. I don't think I could ever watch another animal go through that again.

Q. How do you know when your cat's done cleaning himself?
A. He's smoking a cigarette.
Last week my cat became quite ill, so I took her to the vets and after she had been in there a few hours I got a phone call to basically say she had kidney faliour. As you may have seen from a previous post of mine, she has been diabetic for 2 years now and this is one thing they did worn me about. The vet said they would give her 24 hours and then another test, but it was very likely I would have to have her put down. As you can imagine I was prepareing myself for the worst, but the following day I got a call from a stunned vet who said he had never heard of a cat recovering so dramatically and that her kidneys were almost functioning normally again! She is still in the vets having her blood sugar levels stabalised again, but I'm hoping to bring her home tomorrow! She certainly used up another one of those 9 lives! This could now be a recurring problem with her, and if that's the case I will have to do what is kindest for her, but for the moment we have a repree! My partner who never used to be a fan of cats fell in love with Tia and was a great help and support over the weekend. What a worry pets are! But it wouldn't be the same without them!
Awe, I'm glad she's okay for now. Good luck.
Fireworks77,
That's good news! I wish you and your furry friend the best of luck. I know exactly what you're going through. I just went through a situation with my guide dog, andit wasn't easy. But, fortunately, it turns out there's nothing to worry about!
Just a quick update for anyone who is interested. The cat came home a few days ago and seams to be getting back to her old self, untill last night when she didn't eat her dinner and it is still sitting there this morning. Its hard not to become obsessed with what they eat! Lol. Anyway, she's back at the end of the week for another test, and we're just gonna have to play it by ear!
Fireworks77, hope your cat is doing well. I'll definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us informed about her situation. hugs
As for myself, I do have a cat. Her name's Bailey, and she is three years old. I have had Bailey for over a year now, and love her to pieces.
She's part siamese, so I've been told, but no one seems to know why this is, since she apparently doesn't have any Siamese features. Bailey is black, with light brown patches on her back, sides, ears, and tail. She has a white belly, as well as white under her chin and paws. She also has green eyes and a white nose.
I got the Bailey Cat from some friends who had just had a baby, so they couldn't give Bailey the attention she needed.
Bailey is a social butterfly, and she is also very vocal; I swear that feline has an opinion about everything. lol
I can't imagine life without Bailey, she is truly an awesome cat!
The Sassiest of Kitties
Well I just bought a new toy for Smokey online today. I can't wait for it to get here. I love buying new toys for the little brat. LOL
Well, I'm back again! Things seamed to be going well enough with Tia, (please see previous posts to save me explaining again)! Her blood sugar levels sorted themselves out and I took a sigh of relief. However, she hasn't eaten for three days and she needs to eat for the insulin to work. Last time this happened, only 6 weeks ago, her kidneys had failed. They did warn me it could happen again, and if it did the kindest thing would be to have her put to sleep. She is getting quieter and weaker, so I'm finding it dificult not to think the worst. I have an appointment at the vets tomorrow. I'm hoping he has something good to say...
Oh my. You're the second person on here currently facing a decision about perhaps having to put your cat down. I know what that decision is like. Good luck.
Two days ago Tia had to be put to sleep. Her kidneys had failed again and it was the kindest thing for her. It wasn't really a choice to make, but it was still very hard to say go ahead and do it. I miss her around the house, it isn't the same without her.
I'm sorry to hear you had to put her to sleep. It's hard getting used to not having a pet around. I remember when my cat Lizzy died in September 2004, there would be times when I was sure I felt her brush against my leg or heard her jump down from a piece of furniture.
Fireworks77,
I'm so sorry to hear about Tia. You and someone else on here, both had to put your cats to sleep this week, and my condolences go out to the both of you. I know how painful it is to lose something that is so precious to you. I wish you all the strength you need to get through this, and just keep in mind, that she's no longer hurting.
Thank you for all of your kind thoughts and wishes.
I am so sorry to hear about Tia. I was with a friend when she had to have her cat put to sleep. It was so hard to see her hurt like that. It was hard for me to say goodbye to him too. He had been a very sweet fellow, and they had not had nearly as much time together as I wish they could have. I don't know what I would do if I had to have my Missy put down. They get to mean so much to you. She's my little girl, and I honeslty can't imagine being without her. Love a little extra on your pup too, he, or she... I didn't catch which, is sure to be missing Tia too.
